Position: CAD Technician – Structural Detailing – Full Time position

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Report to the Manager of Engineering;
  • Coordinate work activities with Project Managers, CAD Designers, Structures Designers, survey staff, Project Engineers;
  • Buried utility outside plant design drawings in accordance with CSA and ESA
  • Aerial utility outside plant design drawings in accordance with CSA and ESA
  • Prepare plan and profile drawings in CAD which includes but is not limited to duct formation, duct occupancy, duct alignment, and manhole and equipment box locations in accordance with Bell Canada Standards and Practices
  • Prepare detailed drawings of reinforced concrete structures such as utility maintenance chambers, pad mounted interfaces and retaining walls for example (elevations, details and sections);
  • Prepare detailed drawings of structural steel components such as conduit hanger systems attached to bridge structures for example (elevations, details and sections);
  • Prepare rebar schedules, Bills of Materials;
  • Ongoing development of Planview’s design standards and methodologies to further develop design and operational efficiencies;
  • Interface directly with Planview clients and other third party resources to discuss, review and provide consultations for project requirements;
  • Attend site meetings with clients or third parties as required;
  • Adhere to strict project budgets and client deliverable dates;
  • Other activities as required.

 

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

 

  • Working experience with AutoCAD 2010 or later is mandatory. THERE WILL BE A CAD TEST
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • The ability to deal with multiple projects and conflicting deadlines
  • Technology program graduate with minimum 2 years work experience
  • Strong knowledge / expertise in structural detailing / drawing of reinforced concrete structures and structural steel elements
  • Working knowledge of concrete and steel structural design principles
  • Familiar with Canadian industry codes, engineering practices, standards and construction methods.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS

 

  • Canadian consulting engineering work experience
  • Experience with outside plant design of utilities (i.e. electric, gas, telecom, fibre optic)
  • Knowledge of Bell Canada Standards and Practices for outside plant design and construction
