JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Reporting to the Division Manager, responsibilities include drafting services, production environment automation, standards and training for a variety of internal and external clients.  Responsibilities include and not necessarily limited to:

 

Drafting Services

  • Perform complete CAD drafting of projects including:
    • Coordinate work activities with project coordinators, designers, surveyors, engineers and management
    • Translation of field survey data into base plan and/or profile drawings
    • Drafting for a variety of designs and products not limited to buried and aerial utility design drawings in accordance with client, CSA and ESA standards
    • Adhere to strict project budgets and client deliverable dates
  • Actively audit projects and maintain statistical metrics to ensure adherence to standards and expectations
  • Assist management with scheduling and deployment of CAD resources in overload and/or unforeseen situations
  • Perform other duties as required

 

Production Environment Automation

  • Actively develop and implement automated tools and processes to optimize and support drafting, design and production
  • Maintain knowledge of advances in CAD technology and their application in a production environment
  • Ensure consistent and uniform work flow
  • Ensure stable and streamlined operations of CAD drafters and software
  • Analyze and resolve CAD user and technology issues in a timely fashion
  • Participate and coordinate with Information Technology staff on CAD environment related issues

 

Standards

  • Develop and maintain a library not limited to CAD templates, standards, procedures, guidelines and work instructions
  • Ensure CAD staff maintain strict adherence to these standards for all projects

 

Training

  • Develop and maintain a library of CAD knowledge and training material
  • Provide in-house training programs in all facets of CAD usage, best practices and the production environment
  • Provide day to day CAD support and troubleshooting

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • 2 or 3 year technology diploma in a relevant discipline or suitable combination of education and experience
  • 5 years or greater demonstrating advanced experience with AutoCAD 2010 or later version
  • 2 years or greater in a “lead” CAD role with responsibilities for standards, training and best practices
  • Experience with script/programming code development used directly in CAD automation and production
  • Experience with drafting and design of telecommunications infrastructure such as but not limited to OSP, ISP, MDU, etc.
  • Experience with Canadian Industry Codes, Ontario based engineering standards and best practices
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Must be able to learn, understand and apply new technologies
  • Highly self-motivated and directed with keen attention to detail
