Summary of Duties

A Geospatial Technician will be required to use their skill sets to contribute and innovate on a variety of projects and programs. The responsibilities can vary from dynamic requirements and projects to consistent programs that require support and development. The ideal candidate is a proficient problem solver with a passion

General Duties

  • Data & Analysis:
    • Support the evolution of new projects and programs by preparing, updating, and analyzing spatial and attribute data.
    • Work on projects assigned by a Project Coordinator, ensuring all project needs are addressed.
    • Use a variety of software, including Esri’s ArcGIS Suite and FME, to complete assigned tasks.
  • Project Coordination & Communication:
    • Collaborate with management, Project Coordinators, and peers to address project needs and facilitate project success.
    • Estimate time requirements for all workloads and development items before and during the project life cycle.
    • Provide Project Coordinators with regular updates on project task status, and proactively inform them of any issues (e.g., IT problems, potential missed deadlines) as they arise.
    • Enter accurate timecards at the end of every day.
  • Quality Assurance & Troubleshooting:
    • Evaluate information gathered from source data and reconcile conflicts to ensure accuracy.
    • Conduct quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) tasks on all digital products and deliverables to ensure data integrity and technical standards are consistently met.
    • Troubleshoot data issues as directed by the Project Coordinator.
  • Administrative & Development Support:
    • Assist with other activities as required to support the team’s operational needs.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience:
    • GIS post-graduate certification or equivalent education.
    • 0-2 years of hands-on experience with the ArcGIS Suite of Products.
    • 0-2 years of experience in the utility industry is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in the Esri ArcGIS Suite of Products (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.).
    • Experience with GIS file formats such as Shapefiles, CSV, CAD and File GDB.
    • Experience with SQL for querying and manipulating data is an asset.
    • Experience with FME is an asset.
  • Key Competencies:
    • Time Management: Proven ability to apply personal time management skills to maintain workloads and meet deadlines in a virtual work environment. 
    • Teamwork: Able to work effectively in a collaborative (virtual) team atmosphere.
    • Communication: Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
    • Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to evaluate and reconcile data conflicts. 
    • Proactive: Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and provide timely updates on project status.

Hourly Compensation Range: $19.50 – $29.30 CAD

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, may require regular reporting to one of our office locations across Ontario.
 
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
