IDC Canada & CIO recognizes enterprise excellence and innovation in IT

Markham, ON — September 18, 2023 — IDC Canada and CIO have named Planview Utility Services Limited (Planview USL) as a CIO Awards Canada 2023 award winner. Every year, CIO recognizes the tech world’s most innovative organizations and accomplished leaders. 2023 would be the second year for this popular Awards Program in Canada where CIO Awards Canada have recognized innovative Canadian tech projects and teams.

Planview USL in conjunction with its partners has designed the collaboration platform that supports the provisioning of $4 billion in funding to build broadband faster in Ontario.  The platform is called the Broadband One Window, also known as BOW.  The BOW is accessed by ISP’s, municipalities and electrical distributors across Ontario to manage project accountabilities, remove barriers and support broadband deployment subsidized by the Accelerated High Speed Internet Program (AHSIP).  BOW is an integrated platform that encompasses leading technologies such as geospatial mapping, analytics and cloud infrastructure. BOW reduces barriers and enables collaborative processes across multiple stakeholders by facilitating data access, information and documentation sharing, reporting, and approval timelines to streamline the delivery of high-speed Internet access to rural communities in Ontario.

“We’re excited to celebrate CIO Awards Canada 2023, which honours Canadian IT organizations for projects driving digital business growth through technology innovation. Many projects are related to customer relationship management, data transformation, workforce management and data governance.,” said Lars Goransson, Managing Director, Canada, IDC. “We are honoured to showcase these achievements and the people behind them as we gather virtually to experience CIO’s Future of Digital Innovation Summit & Awards Canada on November 15th. We then recognize CIO Awards Canada 2023 winners at our in-person celebration on November 16th at The Omni King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto hosted by Lee Rennick, Executive Director, CIO Communities at CIO.  The event will be co-produced by IDC and Foundry’s CIO.”

“We’re thrilled to have built the BOW platform because it unites three unique types of stakeholders to work towards achieving the common goal of connecting underserved communities in Ontario to reliable and affordable Internet.  Electrical distributors, municipalities and ISPs are all governed differently, and to some extent have competing priorities.  So to build a collaboration platform that facilitates each of them to work together to provide an essential service to rural communities was a significant undertaking.  Broadband One Window democratizes locational data for all stakeholders of the Accelerated High Speed Internet Program and that’s a legacy I’m happy to share.” says Kris Philpott, Senior Vice President at Planview USL.  Philpott quips, “In the future, we will be able to apply this type of geospatial collaboration platform to a multitude of government supported infrastructure projects to build faster.”

Jeff Mocha, Chief Engineering & Innovation Officer, adds, “Broadband construction projects in rural Ontario are quite complex, and the BOW platform keeps everyone moving in the right direction through to project completion. Providing the means to manage and scale the sheer size of the Accelerated High Speed Internet Program is truly a significant achievement.  Bridging the ‘Digital Divide’ will foster prosperous and thriving communities that I’m proud to support.”
